Will, congrats on the new glass. If you're shooting these handheld, your time spent in the gym has paid off in spades. Looking forward to more of these -

, thanks David! Yeah, all handheld....I throw around 94 lb pumps for a living,
but will admit the 1DmkII 300 f2.8 IS and 1.4xII is a load. The Stedy Eddy helps but
may concede to a monopod for extended shooting sessions.
...one from this am with said combo.

Congratulation, Will. You still have more than 3 months to know your new lens inside out. The last time I was in Bosque with my 300f2.8IS, I shot probably over 80% with the lens + 1.4X during my 7 days visit: http://www.pbase.com/stephenl/new_mexico_2004

99% of the time I use the combination with my Sidekick/AS B1. It got very tiring after a few panning handheld. But, I am just an old office worker .

Thanks, Stephen...I'll probably break out the Sidekick and the 1.4x too. I'm tryin'
to see what I can get away with at this point but know I'll come to my senses by
fall. (full moon on the 24th Nov.this year)

Congrats on the new lens Will, looks like you are getting along just fine with it.
Like the hummers and the female RR, just keep eating your Wheaties.

Thease are really nice photos Will. I think next to the 400 2.8 this is one of the handiesr pieces of glass for general birding as even with a 2X they still produce.
I would go for a monopod. I have been useing a Bogen with a gambel head for my 500 and it is really easy to tract with as it is never in your way and easy to move.

Way to go Will. Love that shot of the tracks - best wildlife composition I've seen in a long time

I use the same setup as Lou and it has worked very nicely.

Thanks: Doug, Lou, Rachel and Gero!
I'm now wondering why I waited so long to get one. I knew I would get some grief
for the shot of the R/R track switches, just was curious who'd it be. Ah, Gero....
my train of thought veered your way...thanks for not disappointing.

Awesome shots, Will! That lens really is amazing, enjoy.

For those shots from your 30D - what sharpness setting in the camera do you use? That shot is particularly crisp to me.

Will....do not let this show up on B&S......repeat: do not let this show up on B&S.

Everyone seems to really love this lens, and once you are accustomed to it.....wow, I'll expect more postings.

Nice hummer shots
