p.1 #1 · Err 99 Help

Got a new Sigma 28mm F1.8 II Aspherical and am using it on a 20D.
From everything I can see manual focusing it, it is a very sharp lens.
I had the opportunity to pick this up relatively inexpensively from my
significant other's co-worker. My problem is that it is giving me an
Err 99 reading from the start, which has rendered it virtually useless.

I understand that I will likely need to use it on AV mode only; can
someone give me instructions if what I am thinking is correct, and how
I need to use it so that I can get take images and make sure that I get
rid of the Err 99 blinking signal issue. This has never happened before using
my Tamron 17-50, so I am a bit miffed; I don't have a lot of experience
with third party lenses, so I feel a bit like an amateur. Any help appreciated.

Always shoot wide open.
If Sigma has the chip in stock to fix it, they will. If not they won't order a new one and you must use it on a film body if you want to stop down.

Only shoot at f1.8, which is wide open.
