Today I was at the beach and there was this guy taking pictures. He had a Canon 70-200 2.8 with a different lens hood. I couldn't take it any longer so I asked him what kind of hood it was. It was a rubber hood I could see that ok but he said it's a Mamiya RZ-RB hood. Totally awesome hood and when I got home I searched for one and found a used one at B&H for $30 shipped. Now I am wondering if anyone else is using this hood?
Another interesting thing I noticed about this person is how he kept his gear. I might add this person is a professional but in his bag he had many lenses facing upwards. The glass on these babies were filthy they had so much crud on them I couldn't believe it and no filters. It drives me nuts when I see one speck of dust on my lens
Alot of sports shooters use it when they shoot basketball. NBA dictates that you can't have hard plastic hoods, so people like Bert at SS.com use the mamiya one.
dust on the front of the lens usually doesn't effect the quality too much of your photos, most PJ's are on the go so much they dont take the time to wipe everything clean.

He was a "pro" in what sense? A lot of pros who use equipment lent to them by their employers tend to not take good care of it.
