Hey Eric,

Nice shot here. I really like the lighting and the cottonwood. It is kind of neat the cottonwoods behind it also, gives a lot of depth to this shot.

Great lighting on that tree. Since you asked for brutal, I'd offer some things to make the shot...well, a bit less boring. I think you could crop the bottom so that the image starts where the color in the brush begins. Also, I would 'velvia' it up a bit. Maybe not extreme, but I would darken the sky, as well as those hills so that the tree stands out a bit more. Its extremely dramatic as it is, so I don't think you need to do much to the actual tree, but i would make some heavy changes to the environment, and I think you'd have a real winner. Good luck.

the top one is good but i actually love the artistic effect on the bottom one, that looks really neat, not as a photo but as art.... heh who needs paint anymore you can just take a photo and convert it into art in photoshop.
