p.1 #1 · some Raw questions

Raw shooter essentials 2005 has been my main raw converter. In the past I didn't shoot a lot of raw. But now all my pics are raw.
My questions is, is it worth upgrading to the pro version? Anything new in the pro version?
RSE is so simple and easy. My only complain is that there is no crop tool!

How does Canon DPP compare to rawshooter. I tried lightroom. cool user interface. But runs slow on my laptop (2Ghz, 512mb ram). rawshooter is way faster.

Is there a raw converter with built in noise reduction thats works as good as neat image or noise ninja. I have tried the noise reduction in RSE, couldn't match neat image.

I use the pro version and it is much better. Unfortunately the compagny has been sold to adobe.

Why not go for lightroom, thats now available for windows too.

Or of course, CS2 - which does have some noise reduction built in though not as good as Neat Image

Yeah I'd recommend Bibble too, they have noise ninja built in. Raw shooter is no more, it's been swallowed by adobe. Yes, lightroom runs slower than a snail stuck in quicksand on my P4 3.2ghz with 2gig RAM.

Pity... RSE was fast and small, unlike adobe stuff.

I have not used it - but I don't think it is the full version of Noise Ninja is it?

There's two variations. A basic limited version and a full version. The full version requires a separate NN license (any level is supposed to work). I've only been using the basic so far & it's great; I'll eventually upgrade to the full version.

I'd recommend Bibble as well. I found LR to be very disappointing. Oh, and Bibble has a RS settings converter now, too.

Depends. The concept of giving you as many non-destructive features is great, but it has some unexpected limitations, like weird haloing sometimes with Perfectly Clear, that you need to look out for.

Crashes a bit, too. But a great value for the money, and pretty fast.

DPP is a completely different beast, but it's it's color rendition is hard to match. I tend to shuffle between several different RAW converters depending on the type of image.

Thanks Eric. I tried bibble. Its feature packed. But makes my pc cry. When using bibble, my hdd is always running, everything is slow. Minor change takes couple of secs to show up. changing the tab from basic to advanced menu, takes a couple of secs. If I try to minimize, screen goes white.
Compared to this Raw shooter is awesome. Runs like a horse.
Am I doing something wrong with bibble? The instruction video said, fastest raw converter!

make sure you've got the latest version of Bibble.
I'm not at home now to verify, but I think it's like 4.3.1a or something like that.

The prior version was quite slow as well but the latest is much better.
It's not as fast as RSP but they seem intent on making it better and better each time.

I know I'm not the only one really hoping the speed issue is resolved.

Do ou have enough ram for what you are tyring to do? Do you understand that bibble makes background previews taht can be disabled at teh expense of longer load times?

Yes, I have 1Gig RAM, 1.8Ghz P4 cpu, 3gigs of free hdd space. Even with 1D mark 1 raw files. Bibble takes considerable time.
I'll try to disable the background previews.

Take this to the bank... Forget Bibble. Forget Raw Shooter. And yes, forget Capture (I used it for almost four years. Until now it was the best. I process 2,000 images a week). You guys have got to try:

silkypix.com (developer studio)

This a new raw converter from Japan. It is the BEST raw converter on the market. Period. End of story! No I don't work for them... . Anyway... the files created by this program are THE MOST CREAMY, FILM LIKE of ANY raw converters out there. I've used all of them. The quality is amazing!!

You mean 4.8.1a. I have not had the performance issues many have complained about (AMD X2 4200+, 2GB RAM); it run fast enough for me. The development team is amazingly active & have been giving us a constant stream of updates lately.

4.8.1a is the latest.

I think the hard drive churn is Bibble creating preview images for the images in the folder you are browsing (some other apps get around this my making you wait during import for previews to be generated). Either wait a bit for the preview generation to stop, or disable preview generation (blue round arrows on the tool bar at the top)...
