p.1 #1 · Camera Stores in Tokyo?

I am going to be in Tokyo on business at the end of September. Am wondering if there are any recommended camera stores in Tokyo? One thing I am interested in is a 5D, also some lenses. Would also be interested in good used lenses.

BTW how are prices in Japan relative to US.

I noticed that there are no bargins in Europe when I was there recently.

Thanks for advise.

p.1 #2 · Camera Stores in Tokyo?

Hi,

I'm two to three times a year in Tokyo. The best stores from my point of vie are the Bic Camera stores. These are really big and showing a lot of stuff to get. Do you know in which part of Tokyo you will stay?

It is a good idea to apply for the bic card, which will give you 10% at each purchase. I always tend to buy the most expensive part as first and then go down step by step to the cheaper ones. The staff in Bic is extremely helpful and friendly.

The website of the stores is here, may be you know somebody able to read japanese.

Bic Camera

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Between expensive prices and a non-US warranty I think agree that you'll be better served by purchasing in the US... I've never found any good deals in either Japan or Hong Kong

There are many camera stores in Japan. Probably the two biggest ones are Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera. If you go to Akihabara, be sure to check out the Yodobashi Camera there. It's like a big department store.

If you're looking to get cheap cameras or supplies, you should probably wait until you get back to the States. The prices here are much more expensive than those in the U.S. The 5D is 358,000 yen, roughly $3113 USD (100 yen = $115 USD).

Thanks for the information.
For some reason I thought that prices in Japan were a bit better than in US.

Wolfgang, I also travel to Europe and have found the prices there to be steep compared to US.

I will be in Munich in September but not sure if I have time to explore camera stores.

Thanks again guys.

Regards,
DAvid
