Yes, I know that you can't read Hebrew but I'll translate:

This year
August will be different
24/8/06
Every legend has a beginning

Reference: D-spot is one of two Israel's biggest online photography sites. To tell you the truth, I am very surprised to see it here first. Just don't ask me for more details. I don't know and the site's owner dose not tell. NDA I guess.

That tickles imagination... However, I've allready purchased a 5D and a 30D this year so I hope they are releasing a new point & shoot for my wife.

Great, this will be hitting the market right after Nikon's D80. Canon just loves to keep them in their place.

This is going to be huge! Brand-new technology that will revolutionize your photography!

Better sell your good glass and bodies right now before they totally lose their value. Price them aggressively!

(Specifically, your 35L is about to be old news. PM me with your fire-sale price. )

I actually think a fair amount of stuff is moving right now because there is a rebate lull and people are wondering what is coming up. A lot of back up bodies that could lose a ton of value are up on the B+S board, for example. Especially if there is an intermediate camera between a 30D and a 5D or a replacement XT (i.e., 10D and 20D). I don't think it's entirely illogical either. I for one want a smaller body with higher fps to complement my 5d, but whenever I think about buying a 1dMkII or a 20/30D I wonder what's coming next. I know you can always wait, but it's different when you already have a camera and don't need another on but just want another one for different functionality

I am convinced that Canon is about to change their sensor design to a layered mosaic (ala Foveon-like) that will revolutionize digital cameras. It will capture true 16 bit and will have a megapixel and resolving limit that will require a (mostly) new lens line-up. Dynamic range and increased ISO will also be drastically improved (okay, not drastically on the ISO end) and capture rates will range from 8 fps for full frame to 12 for cropped. It's going to be exciting.

I too expect a new sensor design that permits Canon to put more pixels (or provide better resolution) on a given area without affecting the noise performance at high ISO. I also expect improvement in dynamic range. Not sure about lenses though.

How do you know this is about Canon? A forum prediction has credibility?

it's an advertisement, with the canon logo. not a forum post

also, I know the EOS system is getting old, but I don't know about starting with a new system, that would screw over a ton of people...

EF (and maybe EF-S) mount legacy support will be there I'm 99.9% sure.

it seems a strange place to put a teaser for sure.
Could be an elaborate hoax.
But certainly something's afoot!!!

Its entirely possible that what Canon considers "ground breaking" "revollutionary" or so on could be totally at odds to what most photographers would consider to be such.

As an example Canon seems to think that people want/need direct print buttons even on the most high end gear, yet has anyone Ive ever meet said they want/need that, or even use it ? Nope.

To me, some new sensor technology, some good fast DO long lenses, new wide angles, IS built into the body, heck even a MLU button would be cool.

But hey, we might just get an XT N with picture styles and a 1Ds mkII N with pictures styles and a bunch of new point and shoots, with picture styles and wi fi direct print functions.

Groundbreaking ? Not hardly, but we'll just have to wait another 27 days and find out (hopefully less with some "leaks"

From canon's point of view, smaller sensors would mean smaller glass which would mean lower costs.

I kind of like the lack of vigenetting on my 1d2.... and my bank account awaits a product worthy of being purchased.... and I have been waiting almost two years now.......

It's not as though Photokina is unexpected.

Actually, it's a second example of what might be the Canon modus operandi.

In February 2005, two execs at Canon-Spain dropped the hint of a "new camera between the 20D and 1D Mk II later this year." Later that year, a brochure--in Spanish--suddenly appeared for the 5D, and a couple of weeks later, voila.

Okay, so soon after the last Photokina, the Canon exec in charge of the Middle East region drops a tidbit about the "next generation" of 1D camera being both high speed and full frame.

Now we get another hint...from the Middle East region.

Hmm.

In the all and all though nothing is as groundbreaking right now. Canon seemed to jump quite a step with Digic II.

Nikon Users seemed to be happy to get a camera that compared to the current Canon (but not exactly surpassing them per say).

People started preaching about things like weather sealed bodies and so on because they were all that's different. Otherwise it's just another camera with a higher megapixel count.

I know it's not saying much since i have canons 2 latest cameras in my sig. Kinda hypocritical. But I think Canon was kinda smart to do a generation gap type approach.

If not this one, the next drop will be another hammer.

Every legend has a beginning

"Every Legend has a beginning" do they mean Mark II Ds. The Mark II Ds seems right now like the very best SLR so it could be refered as a legend so a new Mark II Ds would start a new begninning. Unless its a totally new sensor, Digic chip etc...nobody is expecting.
