p.1 #1 · Airport/traveling question

I am going to Mexico in a couple weeks and plan on taking my 20D. Can anyone tell me if it's okay to have your equipment scanned by the airport people ? I seem to remember reading something that said not to have your equipment scanned and to have them personally check it instead. I appreciate any info and thanks in advance. Have a great day.

I have had no problems traveling worldwide with my 1d and 1dII.
They get scanned all the time. After all they are just computers with glass..

The only problem I have at some airports (my home airport Nürnberg is one of them, unfortunately) is that they can't really make out what's in my bag, especially when I'm carrying the 300/4 or the Peleng. It's the metal... Usually, I have to unpack my bag, get searched, and have a bomb swab done. No kidding. It's fun if you aren't in a hurry, that's why I come *really* early. No problem at most other airports though. And it doesn't harm the equipment.

The only issue I have ever had is with a monopod.
The South Bend Airport would not let it be carried onto the plane.
Other airports had no problem.

I find that the screeners only deal in buzzwords... Therefore it is important to use words like authorized camera equipment..... etc...

all they did for me was scanned my pack, and then took off front and rear lens caps and peered through the lenses.

No problem scanning your camera gear.

No problem carrying on a tripod either.

The x-ray machine really didn't like my circular polarizer. Other than that, everything gets scanned fine.
