What stands out imediately to me is that my Raw images are sharper than the jpg files. I use DPP to open the CR2 files then save as a tiff then re-open in photoshop cs. I do not have the upgrade to cs2 yet, but the files are sharp. Is this unusual?
It would depend on which picture style you are using, as well as the sharpness setting. Some styles produce sharper conversions than others. Use control+T to display the DPP tool pallete so you can adjust sharpness and other settings.
I'm sure you'll love your new baby. It's a substantial camera but pretty good. I have the 1D mark II (non-N) and I'm very pleased with it.
