People always misquote me when I write that, probably as much my fault as well.
I've never had a real problem with the 5D other than the lack of spec for the price, or the price given the lack of spec.
Given that with the new rebate confirming a street price drop of almost 40% in just six months, can you honestly say I'm wrong?
Without the FF sensor, its a body that would sell for £100 more than the 20D. The markets obviously wised up that FF is a nice quality jump, but not a necessary one and brings with it compromises of its own.
With the 30D at £900 or so, £1200 is a fair price for the 5D and I genuinely believe that the yield issue given by Canon for the high prices is false. The 1DsII has high density and FF, the 5D just a larger 1DII type. Releasing it at £2500 was patently ridiculous.
The 5D was pretty revolutionary when it was introduced so Canon pitched the price high - a little too high I agree, I bought mine back in October for £1999 and haven't regretted a penny. I'm actually thinking of buying a second with the new rebate.
The features of the camera are perfectly good without being exceptional but the image quality (when used with RAW and a good converter) is just astonishing, and that is really all I use to qualntify whether a camera is good or not.
This 30D upgrade is ok....but nothing more than that, it will probably be looking rather dated in 18 months.
