p.1 #1 · 1D Mark II and 15mm Fisheye

I would love to see an example of a 15mm fisheye mounted on the 1D mark II. I would like to see how the 1.25 crop effects the image.

Thanks

I assume you mean the 15mm. Here is a quick shot with no crop of a large prop. shot with the 1D Mark II.

Thanks, and thanks for assuming it was the 15mm, that is what I meant. Nice shot BTW

Iceman,

Also so you know the 1d has a 1.3 crop and not a 1.25.

Cheers, Chris

Some people have said, though I don't know where they got the information, that the 1D is "really" a 1.25 crop, and they just say 1.3.

Hmm, that is interesting. I have always heard it as a 1.3 crop. I would be interested to know which is the correct crop.

1.256 crop - sensor is 28.7 x 19.1 vrs 36 x 24.

Here's one - handheld, horizon's a bit crooked.

I've seen that it's really around 1.25x but Canon rounds it up to 1.3x. I can't find any written support for that though.

It's in the specs, back of the manual

Full Frame (1Ds series / 5D ) = 36 x 24 mm CMOS size
1D series = 28.7 x 19.1 mm CMOS size

36 / 28.7 ~ 1.255
24 / 19.1 ~ 1.255

I think Canon just round up to 1.3x insted of using 1.25x.

And how much of a difference do FOV crops of 1.256 vs. 1.25 vs.1.3 ... is it even noticable to the human eye

Either way, it is not a full frame and yes guys... there is a small crop factor

Someone has posted the same topic sometime ago. Here are a couple of different pictures taken with 1D (not 1D2) and 15mm FE than the ones I have posted before.

so..is that 15mm weathersealed?

lol...wow that is a wonderful shot. They both are really... With the right placement, you can get some astounding shots with it. I've been wondering this for a while myself...but I think that I'll wait until I get a FF camera to get a fisheye

Thanks for all the great shots. It looks like you still get most of the fisheye effect.

I knew it was actually 1.25, and not 1.3, but like someone said, it does not make a huge difference.

malice4 you: so..is that 15mm weathersealed?

No, but the camera is. That's why I know I need to have a 1D series body.

Zane Yau: Did you get wet??

Oh, yeah. The water was much closer than it looked in the picture due to FE effect. I needed quick reflexes to swing camera out of way. Still not quick enough a couple of times.
