Anyone have any idea how I can get a buffer upgrade for a D1x? Is this a shareware program available from Nikon or is this something that needs to be sent to Nikon to have them perform this on the camera? Any idea on the cost?
You have to send it in to Nikon for this service. When they do the buffer upgrade, they also upgrade your firmware too. I have not had this done myself, but I've heard it's around $250. Maybe someone else will chime in. Good luck with it,
Thanks Sam! I just loggod on to the Nikon website and found out that They will perform the Buffer memory enhancement service for about $250.00 providing the camera is an original US model. I wonder if it is worth it to purchase a used D1x in good condition and send it to Nikon for the service upgrade, or just pay more and buy one with the upgrade already included.
Hi there. When I used the D1X, I was tempted to send it in for upgrade, but didn't want to be without it. After using it a while, I realize I didn't need the upgrade other than "wanting" it. If you can get a really good deal on a body, then it may be beneficial to buy and send to Nikon. But the prices of even the buffered models have come down, so it's a tough call. If you can save at least $100-200 by doing this, it may be worth it. If not, just get the buffered body. Don't forget about the hassle, and the wait of sending the body in. If it doesn't bother you, go for it!
My D1x does not have buffer upgrade. My experience from Sigma SD9 always gave me full buffer when I shot 6 pictures then wait for 45 seconds. Now, my D1x never give me full buffer.
