p.1 #1 · D200 - Blowing the red channel.

I've been having an interesting problem with my latest batch of D200 photos. I've been having some issues with the red channel since day one. I don't really know how it's been happening. I've been shooting jpg so far with the colorspace set to sRGB. In-camera processing is set to normal. The interesting thing is that the thumbnail preview in the Finder (Mac OSX) isn't blown. It just shoots the red channel right up when I open up in PS or in IView MediaPro. Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Don't use sRGB. Try Adobe RGB - it has a wider gamut.

Actually sounds like an ICC profile mismatch. Just for giggles and grins try setting your color management settings to their defaults and see what happens.

I don't really think it would be a color space issue. I agree with Marc in that it's probably a management issue. What do your histograms look like?

As Dan mentioned .......... check your RGB histogram and also turn on the highlite function (or whatever it's called:-). Reds can be a problem for matrix metering.

I find Nikon DSLR's are prone to blowing out the red channel easily, so you must meter your highlights acurately. I also reduce contrast in camera which helps...
