p.1 #1 · How would you display if...

I know this may not be the "best" forum for this, but the folks here have mounds of experience and I need advice...
If I was going to put together a folder of "best" images, and some of the images were not a full 8x10, would you
1. use PS to enlarge the canvas to black (to get the image to stand out)
2. use PS to enlarge the image to white, and just leave it there
3. use PS to enlarge the canvas to get an 8x10 print and then crop the edges off?
The images I'm working w/ in some cases are on an odd ratio and can not simply be enlarged to 8x10, and in other cases have been cropped smaller for visual effect and although the "could" be enlarged to 8x10, they would not look good...to much of a crop from the original.
I'm sending these to WHCC so they need to be 8x10 atleast to start.
Oh, 5x7 would not work either nor would 4x6.
Thanks
Some of the pics are on my home page (hit the www link). The lat few on the 3rd page of pics and over to the next page or 2. I anyone cares to look.

Are talking about an 8x10 image or an image on an 8x10 sheet? You could print a nice image(max size image at 300 dpi) on an 8x10 with a white border--that would be ole school, I guess.

Sorry, to clarify....printing a smaller image (smaller than 8x10) on an 8x10 sheet. I do not want to do a mat program type of thing, although I have a neat program to do it. Unless the concensus is to go w/ a mat type border and then trim the excess. I want to display the image, not dress it up...I could leave the white and trim it to size, but I'm not sure that's the best way.
The other thing is that some of the images are 10 inches tall, but not 8 inches wide ( or 8 inches wide but not 10 inches tall) , so I'd only have the added bit on 2 sides.

I guess I'm old school: for a naked print I would center it going for a pleasing balance of white border and be done. Course beyond that it's wide open what you choose to do. I'm not sure some 'fancy' mat effect on the border is that cool. A lot of posts on the forums here go for assorted mat effects which is general I hate: too much distracting mat not enough image.
