i recently stumbled upon a canon 58mm 1.2 FL lens. is there perhaps an adapter that would allow me to use it on an XT? or is it simply too ancient to be even considered? thanks!

As far as I know, FL lenses have the same problems as FD lenses mounted on an EOS body. The FL and FD mounts had a shorter distance to the "film" plane than the EOS. Simple mechanical adapters sacrifice the ability to focus at infinity; adapters with optics effectively serve as 1.26x telephoto converters. Cheaply made versions of the latter are frequently seen on eBay.
