p.1 #1 · Strange Noise on 17-55 2.8

I recently noticed a strange noise on my 17-55 2.8. When I point the lens up it makes a slight humming or buzzing sound, kind of like a low pitched vibration. When I point it back down it makes the same noise for a couple of seconds and stops. The lens does this both when it is attatched to a camera and when it is not. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this normal or should I contact Nikon?

wow, that's odd. maybe there's a bee inside? ok j/k - it couldn't hurt to ask nikon the question. it certainly doesn't sound normal to me. maybe something came loose inside.

Does it do it with the sunhood removed?
I've had some similar experiences and noticed it was the sunhood...

I noticed that it does it with hood on and off. I wonder if it is the weight of one of the lens elements moving up and down due to gravity?
