ahhhh ok, whats the upgrade. A firmware thing or a physical take out put something better in type of thing. Im trying to talk him into 2x D 70's as ive used them before and they kick arse!

There is a Buffer Upgrade possible on D1X. Firmware upgrade is something different. For firmware upgrade, the internal software in camera is loaded with a new one but in buffer upgrade, internal memory capacity is increased so is a physical (hardware) change. You can do firmware upgrade yourself but for buffer upgrade need to send in D1X to Nikon service center.

buffer upgrade is the main thing - and firmware upgrade is available too. How expensive is buffer upgrade if you don't have it? Just interested to know.

I don't need it - cause I got the D2h -- smokin fast at 8fps

D1x firmware is not user-upgradeable, gotta send it to Nikon.

Additionally, there is a firmware update that accompanies the buffer upgrade. A buffer-upgraded D1x will have firmware version 5.x as I recall.

I used a buffer-upgraded D1x to shoot track & field, baseball, soccer, etc, until the D2h came out. It does a nice job.

Regards,
Mike
