Not true. There is nothing 'old' about the Adobe RGB 1998 colour space. The correct colour space depends ENTIRELY upon the intended use of the image. sRGB is a better colour space for images intended for display on the web (on a monitor), whereas RGB 1998 is better suited for printing. I still use my D1 regularly under daylight or strobe conditions and always shoot in the Adobe RGB 1998 colour space with no need to convert to sRGB later.
Further, the magenta cast has ZERO to do with colour space. The magenta cast was an issue with early versions of the camera sensor itself. It was corrected with later generations of the original D1.
