Is it just me or did that pointless, occasionally enlightening but generally entertaining thread about sensor sizes disappear overnight? Was it all a dream?

Yeah - I deleted it. It started to get too many people too hot under the collar. I was trying to do my part to cool things down a bit. My apologies if you miss the bantering.

Hi:
Well yes, when men measure and compare the size of their "sensors" it always gets that way. Wider, longer, wider longer....

If patience is a key virtue to the art of photography (I think John Shaw said that) those threads teach us how far we have to go!
