p.1 #1 · Intellisharpen II

Just got the Intellisharpen II software and I am using this on 1D and 20D images mainly for wildlife and wedding / portraits can someone give me some pointers on where to start on the default settings.

Once I have a starting point I can adjust the setting bit by bit for each image but just need that starting point.

Or better still any of you guys or gals ant to share what settings you actually use that would be great.

Thanks for the help.

I feel your pain, brother. It would be nice if there were some basic profiles--such as you can get for Noise Ninja, for example, for base settings at various ISOs. FWIW, though, for my starting settings (20D and 300D), I use:

For low ISO:
Intellisharpen level 40
Fine detail 20
0% Halo
Reduce color noise

For high ISO:
Intellisharpen level 30
Fin detail N/A
0% halo
Reduce color noise

I also have a few presets for special problems, like soft ISO 400, high noise, etc. I wish Intellisharpen II had a preview mode, like Photoshop functions do, as I often like to click the preview box on and off to see the change back and forth--sometimes I just have to toggle while looking at different areas of the image to see if it is better or worse. ISII takes so long, though, to apply, it isn't feasible to apply-undo-apply-undo, etc., so I end up just doing it and then clicking the History back and forth to see the effect. If I don't like it, I delete it from the history and start over. Sometimes, I think it just isn't worth the trouble, and I go back to unsharp mask.

When it works, though, it works well. Good luck with it.

Bill
