This will mean more than the $20 to me because I have another purchase that qualifies for the rebate (that I've already sent in), giving me double rebate for both, so I'd say it's worth $60 to me, not anything to sneeze at!
I think the original sales receipt and a receipt from the seller would cover the bases *if* it can be done at all. I don't recall seeing anything in the rebate literature saying that the seller had to be an authorized Canon retailer.
I think for the rebate to go through the receipt has to be in the same name as the receipt. So buying an item with someone else's name on the receipt won't qualify for the rebate.

I just got off the phone with the Canon Rebate center (877)862-6870
They said that it doesn't matter whose name on the receipt, they will make the check out to the name and address that you put down on the rebate form.
So you are good to go
