It's terrible. At least compared to Adobe Camera Raw's speed. Updates the image in blocks, where 1 block is the time it takes ACR to render the entire image. Worst part is no Live View tethering on APS-C...

You use this mostly or solely for the pixel shift feature of the A7r III and not for handling regular RAW files, right?

The capabilities of the "Remote" software is limited by the firmware in the camera. Note that only the brand new A7r3 supports manual focus from the computer. This leads me to believe that the new A7r3 has a remote API that has been improved over all the other mirrorless Sony cameras. The implication of this, will also be that only the A7r3 will support remotely controlled focus stacking.

Not even the A9 supports remote manual focus. Many older cameras don't support live view.

Conclusion: Sony should, if possible backport improvements in the remote APIs, to older models, via firmware updates, whenever possible. Olympus, Nikon and Canon have had such features for years. (Nikon has currently broken everything with their "Snapbridge" wireless remote system.)

I just gave it a try, on some 7r2 raw files. It does work and the program itself is quite small and takes up a minimum of HD space. The files that it produced are quite decent, and look very similar to anything at ACR or DXO have produced on the same files. Also takes up less memory than either Lightroom on PS. That being said the program is quite clunky. It does indeed update the preview image in very visible blocks, and one block updates in about the same speed as ACR updates the entire image. There is certainly no instant feedback when making adjustments, you have to wait a few seconds for it, and it does get annoying rather quickly.

I can see using this for quick simple edits while on the road as well and for the pixel shift and other capabilities but beyond that its of rather limited use.

I have foubd no way to select the focus point in Imaging Edge...

With Capture One you can use the focus meter. First you set the camera to manual focus, then you use the focus ring on the lens, and C1 will indicate level of correct focus.

I wonder why Sony opted to go this route rather than contract this out to Phase One who already offers a reduced feature version of Capture One Pro for Sony owners for free.

The last thing the world needs is another RAW converter from a camera manufacturer.

Old existing Sony software with few feature for a7r3, and a new armonized skin.

I’ll take the next + 10. Leave this in the hands of Capture One and Lightroom. Take all those people programming this and walk them by holding there ear lopes and drag them over to the update my firmware department.

Companies famed for hardware or electronics, like Sony or the big car companies, have routinely been unable to deliver good, smoothly functioning software. They should leave this to an outside company of pros. But being Sony, they won't. So it will clunk and clank.

Yeah? That is pretty important for the pixel shift feature. Could be real nice to a able to load the pixel shift baked .arw file into Capture One Pro.

Wow, just from the supported camera list this looks half-baked—even for Sony! Only one model is fully supported? Has anyone found any reason—if you don't own the A7R3—to use this software?

Apologies for the snark. Not sure how else to phrase it, but I am genuinely curious.

it's the camera included raw viewer and editor.
reason is if you cannot afford to pay 3rd party , sony includes theirs for free. you get /something/, and in a7riii case, for now, the only raw editor that can use the pixel shift feature.

PlayStation and PlayStation Network have pretty good software and they support developers well. So Sony can get it done.

PlayMemories Apps was on the right track integrating with PlayStation Network. Not sure why they don't expand that.

I guess Sony didn't want to undercut their partner, P1. Mission accomplished!
