Let me start this thread with some comparisons between the new Sony 12-24/4 ultra wide and some of my personal lenses. There are: CV 12/5.6 III, FE 16-35/4 ZA, and Loxia 21/2.8. Feel free to post your own comparisons on this thread!
These side-by-side comparisons were taken at infinity distance and they are the best of 4 for each lens. (Manual focused at 12.5x magnification). Since I know these lenses well, I am able to focused them precisely taken in consideration field curvature. The 12-24/4 appears to be flat-field starting and the low field curvature is pretty much masked by f/5.6.
Aside from sharpening (same for all lenses), the RAW files were processed in Lightroom with default settings.
*I added +35 manual vignetting correction all CV 12 files, otherwise the extreme corners would be very dark. There were no corrections done for any other lens.

My impression when checking these files is that the 12-24/4 is better everywhere but especially at mid-zone where the CV 12/5.6 III does not improve much when stopping down from f/5.6 to f/8. To me, the 12-24/4 @12mm is the clear winner in regards to resolution and contrast.
Next, I will compare the 12-24/4 G vs 16-35/4 ZA @16mm...

The CV 12 has much higher vignetting making the corners darker. On top of that, the 12-24/4 has higher contrast towards the corners as well which gives the impression of more clarity.
For the CV 12/5.6 crops, I added +35 manual vignetting correction otherwise the extreme crops would be even darker. No vignetting correction was done to the 12-24/4 crop.

Very similar performance except towards the edges where the 12-24/4 is noticeably better with higher resolution and less astigmatism. I will post f/8 next although these lenses don't improve much from f/5.6 @16mm.

I would say f/8 is very similar to f/5.6. The 16-35/4 does not improve much and lose a bit of center bite.
To my eyes, the 12-24/4 G is the winner at 16mm with noticeable better corners. (they perform similarly at center and mid-field) but the FE 16-35/4 did extremely well.

Oh my....this is very surprising...12-24/4 vs Loxia 21...
The Loxia 21 is my best native lens. Sharp from center to corners with mild field curvature. The thing about the Loxia is that at infinity you have to compromise center or corners as you can't have both at their higher levels even at f/5.6.
The 12-24/4 by comparison is very flat field with incredible resolution. Here are the crops...
