I like the photo's, I like how you desaturated the background of the last one and kept Brendan & Jamie in color. I ran across a Zero demo in Albuquerque, New Mexico about a year ago. They just happened to show up during the only 3 or 4 hours I was there to ride, they put on a good demo. Good job on the pics.

I would disagree to say the third one is the interesting one..the others are too far away for my liking.

Agamemnon and azurephoto you obviously have no idea what makes a good skateboarding photo.

These are great shots, showing the whole scene is what it's about, I can guarantee you won't find any close crops in a skateboarding mag, it's just pointless.

well said twelve six. They are almost all perfect, in skate board photography you normally show the landing which was apparent in most of the pics. Although you didn't show the landing in the Jamie Thomas pic its still my fav.

I don't know much about skate photography, but I'm not rude either and I have some idea about how to sensibly critique a picture.

(1) Is looking promising, but it would be nice if you could get more separation between background and skater. I see you have noticed this also in (4). Possibly you could blur the backgroud a tad more with the right lens. I'd straighten it as people & trees aren't quite upright.

(2) I like this oen a lot, but I think you may have duotoned it because the contrast's not quite there. The composition is excellent though I think. Again, the guy's wearing tricky coloured clothes.

(4) I like this less than (1) due to the skater's angle.

thanks guys for looking at my pics and for all the comments.

Agamemnon - do only like the second one because its the only pic with someone getting air? just curious.

foxXx - thanks heaps. i was so stoked when i met jamie. he's one of my fav skaters.

TheKagy - thanks. i thought i'd try something different to seperate the skaters from the crowd. the zero team are definately awesome to watch. chris cole alone is a one man demo. he rips.

azurephoto - this was a demo. the place was packed with skaters and it was really hard to get close and not block some kids view.

TwelveSixty - thanks for the comments and thanks for having my back. i kinda assumed i was gonna get some interesting comments from people here just because not everyone is in to or knows too much about skate photography.

foxXx - thanks again. i did wish i could fit the landing in the pic too. a fisheye would of been perfect for this but i don't have one and can't afford one atm either.

philwig - thanks for the comments, really appreciate it. the background is very busy i'd use a shallower dof but i only got my first dslr a couple of weeks before this and can only afford a cheap lens atm. i used a 28-70mm f3.5-5.6 in these shots. this was shot at 70mm so the crowd in the back are actually in focus, i just did some selective blurring in ps. i don't really know much about b&w and sepia conversion, sorry. it was hard to get a good position just because the park was packed and i didn't want to get in front of some little kid and block his view and i didn't want to stand in the middle of the park and get in a skaters path. with 7 skaters skating all at once in one park its really hard to keep track of them all.
