I always laugh when I see someone with 2 to 3 cell phones and another set of pagers hanging around their waist. Talk about wireless leash!!
Unfortunately I used to be one of those people, but I'm learning to pare things down so as to keep stress level down by limiting myself to one combination cell phone/pager device with crappy reception. (That's my excuse). And I don't even wear a watch as it seems kind of redundant.
My wife has picked up on this and no longer wears a watch either. And she's the type of person who used to keep her watched 10 minutes ahead so she could be prompt. HA!
At least this photographer isn't being constantly bombarded with phone calls and pages. (At least not that is visible in this image.)

Two things happened when I saw this photo; my knees started aching and I started trying to remember the name of Bill Murray's character in "Caddyshack". Even so, my photography probably doesn't hold a candle to his.
this isn't that much really over the top. at NFL games some guys have a 600, 300, 70-200 and a wide zoom or even 15. maybe only 3 bodies but hey whatever it takes to get the shot. the knee pads are pretty standard for many sports events, especially when you have to drop in front of a crowd or some photo boss is telling you to get down. the guy may have some film clients so maybe the need for the extra bodies. an assistant would be nice, but how many photogs really rate them other than the SI guys. oh, where is his computer, back-up drive, transmission equipment, screen hood? maybe he was traveling light...
the tape is an important element. First it does provide some protective coverage, but mostly it is the best way to identify your gear--if it happens to accidently slip on to someone else's shoulder when it shouldn't. it also keeps the crowd members from lifting it since it looks like crap--the first thing you do with a new lens is make it look ugly. (given the price of gear, it is easy to understand the EVEN some photogs. have been known to grab a lens hanging around and walk off with it--there are certain ones that are sort of famous for doing this) Pro bodies are meant to be banged around, otherwise who would be nuts enough to carry all that weight around.

I was thinking the same thing...what happens when this guy has to take a 'leak' in one of those small portable on the course outhouses? rofl...i thought it was difficult with a 1d & 300/2.8/is w monopod and a 10d around my neck...
