Are there any canoe or kayak users here? I would like to discuss (question) how you outfitted your craft for photography and which lenses you suggest. This is what I am doing so far:
I just sold my canoe because I was nervous about turning over with my camera gear. I ordered a new, more stable, kayak - 16ft ocean or lake type with 2 waterproof compartments. I also ordered a waterproof bag for the camera. It will be attached to the deck in front of me and easy to reach.
The camera: Just got a new (used) 1D, mostly because of the fast focus and the weatherseal feature - I didn't want to chance it with my D60 as I know it willt get splashed on occasion.
Current lenses are: 15-30, 50 1.4, 24-85, 70-200 2.8 & 1.4 converter.
I intend to get the 100-400 IS and the 28-135 IS for use when out on the water. I am going to paddle the perimeter of the nearby lakes and on occasion the California coastline - birds, wildlife, nature stuff,
So, any tips? lens choice? etc. I will appreciate your thoughts and experiences.
