These are all very nice Jeff, but appear a little soft. The combo you are using should give better results. Did you sharpen these? Have you MA'ed this combo?

I have to ask if you were using a tripod and if so, did you turn off the IS?
If I use my 500 on a tripod and forget to turn off the IS there is a lot of discontent between them resulting in soft images. I've taken to writing "IS off" on the tripod. Not sure if might happen with your setup or not.
Nice set Jeff, I like #2 also, the Ruffie is a dark one, out west they are quite a bit lighter, more along the lines of a Ferruinous Hawk. As others have said, some appear to be a tad soft. Looks like a fun couple months you had
