Thanks to Will on advice how to "field test" and tune the 300 f/4 with a 1.7TC.
Here are just a couple of test shots.
Now, if I could only get my 500mm to take the TC, I would be a happier lady
The shot of the bee in flight was really pushing my limits, but the D800 A/F did wonderful.
Good job! As long as your 500 is an AF-S, it will work with the TC17. You have to use your best long lens technique to do it but it will give excellent results (especially at close range). Keep up the good work!
Yeah tell us (you might have in other posts I am still looking)! I just picked up a 300mm f/4 and when i put the 1.7 or the 2x on it, it just freaks out... Both are the newest tc's and the 300 is the AFS model.

I think he was joking - trenchmonkey has long been an advocate of the 300mm f/4 + teleconverters on here.
What do you mean by "freaks out"? Also, what camera body?
