9. (Image taken from the internet) '54 Jaguar XK120 convertible. I owned a black one like this.
10. (I took this pic at the Munich transportation museum). I owned a Porsche like this one.
11- 2008 Scion xB. My current car- bought new. Not exciting, but a good little car (a 5-speed manual- of course ).
Rags-
I think the pic is of an XK 120 (closely-spaced grill pieces).
Mine definitely was a 120.
No, my roughing-it days are gone. I now sleep in beds only .
The worst-ever car to sleep in was my Triumph TR-3. Impossible!
Charlie
My 52 120 top went into the cavity and was unseen. You couldn't drive the car if you were over 5'10 (battery behind the drivers seat) and I had side curtains
If you think sleeping in the TR3 was tough; ballin' in the 120 took care (a lot hanging out... )
Thanks Zichar.
I never tried to sleep in the Miata. In fact, I seldom slept in a car in the U.S.
I usually free-camped or stayed in primitive campgrounds when I was traveling (occasionally motels). Or dragged a trailer with me for longer trips when my vehicle had enough grunt to tow 2,000 pounds.
My all-time favorite car was probably the Porsche 356. It had the normal engine and was slow getting going, but a real thrill on the curves. And the sound of the air-cooled flat four thrashing just behind my head was intoxicating. And hand-washing those smooth curves was an erotic experience (when I didn't have a date for Saturday night- I washed my car ).
Rags- I see the problem: your '54 was a roadster; my '54 was a convertible. The main differences being the roll-up windows of mine, and the lump of the convertible top when it was folded back.
Yours was cooler, but I was married at the time, and having roll-up windows made a difference with the fairer sex.
Charlie
Me too. My first was a '52 Club racer, probably made in the doctors garage in Austria before he had a factory for the 356. The car was no higher than 36", wind shield 8". It was a terrible car, my Alpha ran rings around it.
This is a picture of it after my bride tried to park it behind a '57 Dodge in Manhattan
Always loved the sound of the 120-M. The worst thing I ever tried to sleep in was a Army Jeep, in the rain. I took the seats out of my MG, and slept in that, at the Rose Parade.
Computer was down for a week+.
Thanks Rags, Sunny, Tom and Greg.
With all respect to the fairer sex... Rags, you let a woman drive your Porsche in Manhattan?!?!!! Talk about PW .
Sunny- I'm old enough that I don't talk about my age . I get enough pity from people for other things .
The only times I had sex in a car were when I bought and drove an old DKW through Europe. With one lady in Denmark, and another lady in Norway. The front seats tilted back perfectly... and the nights were cold... and the radio didn't work, so there wasn't anything else to do for fun while waiting in line for the ferry boats to arrive .
