About 20 years ago I took groups of Americans on tours to eastern Asia.
Thirty people at a time, and the tours always included three weeks in China, plus visiting other countries, i.e. Japan, Thailand, Singapore and/or Bali, and always including Hong Kong.
Upon arrival in China, we were met by a Chinese National Guide who stayed with us until we left the country. At each Chinese airport we were met by a local guide who actually led and gave the tours.
My role was administrative: problem solving (nothing in China back then ever went right), and listening to the people who bitched all the time at everything. Oh, I was also charged with the responsibility of not losing clients in the Imperial Palace and other fun places .
I took seven tours altogether.
My personal photography was mostly on-the-run because the guides kept us busy all the time.
One fun thing (of hundreds)- every lunch was at a local restaurant, and they always served beer at our tables. Apparently someone had told China Travel Service that Americans all drank beer for lunch. Well, I wasn't going to drink the water, so I HAD to drink beer at every meal except breakfast (where they never put it on the tables).
