This is the old, no longer being used St John Catholic Church, near Seymour TX.
When I arrived I was bummed about the light pollution behind the church. But then I notice how it was making the low level clouds glow and got excited.
Shot with the Canon 6D and Bower 24mm f/1.4 lens. http://pcdn.500px.net/27403965/3a44a989b87bfe969cf961f665785d33f75ba119/4.jpg
Beautiful. I am glad you decided to work the scene even though it did not at first appear promising. The stars peeking through is unique and appealing. Very nice.

How long was the exposure, f stop, and ISO used?
Chuck
Thanks Chuck!
That was 15sec, ISO 3200 and either f/1.4 or f/2.
The Bower lens doesn't record the settings in the EXIF so I'm not 100% on the aperture.

Love the shot. Sometimes the little surprises give us the challenge to come up with something more creative. This is a beautiful.
Thanks Voltaire! Well said about surprises, they can be the push we need sometimes.

Great shot! Very cool. I can see the Andromeda galaxy (M31) behind the clouds left of the steeple. I like this shot a lot. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Todd! Andromeda was an added bonus as I wasn't sure where it would be in relation to the church.

Very cool shot. Did you use fill flash to light the church or is that just ambient light?
Andy
Thanks Andy! Yes, I hit the church with 2 pops from the 580exll.
I was tripping the shutter and then running in the dark to flash it from the side.
Then after the fact I realized I could of fired the 6D with my phone and not run around like a fool in the dark.
What a really cool shot! While at first thought, when shooting at night that ambient light would be bad, I had found out too that if there are some low clouds, it can turn out pretty cool like yours here. It does dim the stars a bit, but like your shot here, it sure does add some nice coloring to the cloud. Good job with this.
