p.1 #1 · Bald Eagles - First Attempt

My first attempt at shooting eagles, but im going to head out and hopefully get some more soon. it was a cloudy overcast with light snow flurries.

all shot on a canon 1D Mark4, 300 2.8 (non-is) and 2.0xIII.... they were cropped pretty heavy from the originals as well

You had some pretty tough conditions. Possibly you can dig a bit more feather detail in the darker feathers. This is one of the things I like to use fill flash for. All are nice and sharp and composed well.

thanks guys! im hoping to head back and get some more when the sun is out, and hopefully they fly a little closer to the shoreline

im also pretty impressed with the canon 2.0xIII, its quite a bit better than the version 2 was, even on my old 300 2.8 non-is.

also, anyone know if the one grabbing the fish is a bald eagle (very young)? or a hawk?

100% sure it's an eagle. In fact, I personally have never seen a hawk pull a fish out of the water. An Osprey will dive for fish for sure as well. Hawks mostly eat roadkill and rodents.
