p.1 #1 · G11 replacement suggestions

I'm just starting to look to replace my G11, honestly I really like the camera layout and images, but I constantly run into the problem of not having enough zoom. I don't need one of the huge super-zoom 50x optical cameras, as I'd guess they are giving up image quality to get that type of zoom range, but I'd like to find something in a similar size, with similar image quality (or better of course!) but with more zoom.

I looked at the Nikon 7700 but was on the fence since only going up to 200mm effective from 140mm doesn't seem like much of a jump in the zoom. My guess is in three years they've done a lot of improvements so it might not be that hard to find superior image quality with more zoom.

Thanks in advance!

Todd

Having owned G-series cams and the Nikon 7700, I think the latter is your best bet. A 60mm increase at the long end is pretty substantial in my book. Also, the images from the P7700 are clean enough and sharp enough to allow quite bit of cropping ... giving you an "apparent" increase in focal length. The 7700 has great IQ, great build, usable performance up to ISO 1600 and really handles well.
