Satechi has announced the BT Smart Trigger for Canon DSLR cameras allowing them to easily manage their DSLR camera directly from your iPhone or iPad. It’s basically a wireless shutter trigger that you can control from an iOS device, and it utilizes the latest Bluetooth 4.0 as the wireless protocol, ensuring that you have a solid and fast wireless connection at all times, with a max range of 50 feet.

The compact and lightweight wireless timer remote fits easily into any camera bag and features a battery life of up to 10 years. The BT Smart Trigger is compatible with a wide range of cameras including the latest Canon EOS 5D Mark III, ESO 6D, Rebel T4i and EOS 60D.

The Smart Trigger is available at Amazon.com and the App is a free download at the Apple Store.

No version for Android?

EDIT: Compatibility with Android devices such as the Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Note 2 will be available March 2013.

I think I'm gonna try this. Looked at my options for a intravolometer. I already have 2 types of remotes one wired and one wireless, but they are basic cable release type. I'm wanting to try some time laps videos and the remotes I have won't allow for it. This looks like a good option I already downloaded the free app looks cool.

Is it just me or does that annoying background track make it almost impossible to listen to the narration? Like a car alarm or a kid banging on a casio keyboard then playing it back in reverse.

I have the dslrcontroller android app but was interested in an ipad app.

Just ordered one today for a 5D Mk II that is on its way to me from the buy/sell forums.
For $50 it is worth a try, and I will definitely post my thoughts here once I have had some time to tinker with it.

What are options for using a flash since the Satechi unit is on the shoe mount? Only external?

I believe it's only on the shoe mount for convince, It has its own designated wire to the camera accessory ports, so you are free to mount and use a flash if needed.

Just received mine today. Initial impressions are positive. I can confirm that it works without being attached to the camera hot shoe. The hot shoe mount itself is plastic. The unit runs on 2 AAA batteries (supplied)

I emailed them and Satechi have no plans to release one to support m4/3 cameras or Sony cameras. It's pretty disappointing news.
