Not sure about the pod but the head is a Gitzo 1277m with Gitzo`s proprietary Q/R. I`ve had one of these for a few years and would still be using it but for the weight. It`s smoother than the smoothest smooth thing in Smoothville.

AFAIK it`s no longer available new, having been replaced by those "sideways" ones. They can be found used for £50 or so. It`s an overlooked gem and way better than anything else at that price point. If it was just a little less bulky and a bit lighter I wouldn`t use anything else. It`s big brother, the 1377 is also often overlooked and can be found for bargain prices, although it too is bigger and heavier than it needs to be. IMO.

Just had a look and WEX still carry the 1178M in stock . And its £115 . Those sideways ones are a fair chunk more expensive
Until evidence is provided to the contrary (other than from maker`s publicity) I hereby claim the Manfrotto 190/Gitzo 1177 to be the world`s strongest portable camera support system in the history of the world. Ever.
