The full moon rose over Lake Bled yesterday evening, and I had the pleasure of catching it from the peak of a nearby hill. Unlike my last visit in the summer, the hike back down the steep trail after dark was quite easy due to the snow amplifying the light from my headlamp and breaking my fall when I tripped in a terrain well.
Wow fantastic shot, and great composition. Looks like a scene out of a christmas fantasy land movie. Only thing I would do is slightly darken some areas of the mountains to further lead your eye to the island.
Do you happen to know what the buildings on the island are for? Old mansion, church, or a town hall of sorts?
Justin, thanks for the thoughtful suggestion, though I suspect it would have the opposite effect: darkening the mountains = removing atmosphere = bringing them 'closer' = less separation for the island (?). At one point I tried a darker blend for the entire background, and that threw off the balance of light with the moon (making the moon too prominent), so I backed off of that one. I could certainly process further to make the island separate even more, however; does anyone else think I really need more separation there?
To answer your question about the buildings, I believe that they are all related to the church (which has the big tower). Tourists can take a boat out to the church and ring its bell, which is supposed to bring good luck.
Again, thanks for the comments, and please don't anyone hesitate--with any of the photos I post--to point out anything that is hindering your enjoyment of the image.
Oh, and Rob, it's in Slovenia, not far from the border with Austria.
