Arrived home Thursday from a week in the Belize jungle with my 12 year old son. We had a great trip and had good opportunities for birding and photography. We saw lots of our target birds, some pretty rare. Highlights included the Emerald Toucanet and the rare and aptly named Lovely Cotinga. Many birds were only viewed through a spotting scope and not photographed, but all were a treat to see.
My personal favorite sighting was the Ornate Hawk Eagle. Just a magnificent raptor! It's about 24" tall, 50" or so wing-span.
Our eagle had the annoying habit of perching only with the the sun at his back, which was a good test of my lack of skill exposing backlit subjects.
Most of my first shots looked like this:
Anyway, I managed to get a few keepers. All shots with the 1DX + 500 II. I hope you enjoy them, and comments and suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for looking
