p.1 #1 · Close encounter with a Javelina (Tucson AZ)
I went out to Sabino Canyon National Park with my friend today. I was searching for birds but came across everything but.
These Javelina walked by while we were photographing some Cous Whitetail Deer. I decided it would be a good idea to get up close and personal with them.

Great photos. Javelina are interesting critters. If you ever have the chance, watch their mating behavior. They line up side-by-side, facing opposite directions, and rub each other's butts with their tusks, while turning in circles. Very peculiar. We have an abundance of them in south and west Texas.

They aren't very good table fare in my opinion. They have very strong musk glands that must be removed immediately and with great care, otherwise the glands will taint the meat.
Most do not know that they are not a swine, but a type of rodent. If you want good table fare then I'd suggest pursuing feral hogs.
