p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · d800e lens dilemma

I recently bought a refurbished d800e, mainly to try it out against my Canon gear (including the 5dIII). I figure the main reason I would switch would be for landscapes and travel photography, as I don't need the added resolution for the model photography I'd like to do.

So, I bought a Zeiss 25mm for the Nikon and now want a bit more reach to try it out once the weather gets better.

At first, I was thinking of getting the 28-300 zoom (the walkabout lens for Jay Maisel), but I've read that it's not good enough for the d800e.

Then I considered the 70-200/4 VR, which is apparently a nice lens.

But I'm also thinking of getting the 85/1.8G with the Sigma 35/1.4 which are apparently excellent on the d800e. And I do love great bokeh.

Since there are currently promotions going on some of these lenses, I'd like to make a quick decision. Any feedback from people who have experience with any of these lenses on the d800 would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I roll with the AF-S 17-35 f2.8, Sig 35 f1.4 A, 50 f1.8G, and the 85 f1.8G for my short glass on the D800...
and couldn't be happier. Really a personal decision, John...and should be based on what YOU shoot and of
course where you want to go with your photography. Good luck narrowin' the field.

I'm primary shooting with primes and yes Sigma 35/1.4 and Nikon 85/1.8G are great lenses. Having said that I purchased 70-200/4 VR and I love it! I'm using all of them on D800, D600 and D7000 and I could not be happier

I'm in a similar quandary myself. I've pretty much settled on the 70-200 f/4 as a tele for my outdoors landscape, etc work. I don't have any personal experience with it yet, but I've read several reviews and they are all pretty positive. Seems like a good match for the D800E to me. You might also pick up the 85 1.8 now that it's on sale-- for the model shots.

The AFS 70-200/4 VR is a very good lens for landscapes.
It is a versatile lens (relatively lightweight zoom) but not so fast.
If you love bokeh (and outstanding quality), consider the Zeiss 100/2 Makro-Planar.
To fill the gap between 25 and 100, consider either a 35/1.4 (Zeiss or AF Sigma or AF-S Nikkor) or the Zeiss 50/2.
