Admittedly this has a somewhat "girlish" flavor. But way back then- 30+ years ago- very few girls drove in Japan. The owner probably had a cute girlfriend

In fact, the whole thing about cars being owned by the general population is within the last 40-50 years. They took a long time getting around to it compared to the so-called "western" countries.
