No experience with the E for weddings, but it will be the same as any other camera, even motionblur is the same when you downscale the image in post to 20mp, and you will have a much sharper image than a regular 20mp camera. If you want good out of the camera photo's, just use a shutterspeed that is 2/3 stop faster (or threat it like a dx-camera).

I'm specifically wondering here if users of the E have found moire to be an actual issue that would hold a person back from using the E for wedding use.

I get moire regularly with a 5Dc on the veil and certain suits, I wouldn't touch the E for wedding work.

I shot two weddings with the D800E (and have the "normal" D800 now).
Moire is a potential problem, I had several images with moire. Not in the veil, but unexpected in a guest suit, a scarf and so on.
In every fabric lures the danger of moire...

But is the moire such a problem that it can't be fairly easily solved in post? I'm curious, too.

my feeling is that the d800 "E" is waaaay overkill for weddings.

Whether it's overkill has been discussed extensively elsewhere. The question here is whether moire is a problem, and if so, to what extent.

Moire is a potential problem, but is it something you'll ever see?

the E does give a sharper image, but is it something you'll ever see?

I think you have to balance those questions, and if they were the same price it might be a little bit of a tough decision, but since it's a $300 difference I feel confident saying it's a pointless expense for wedding photographers. I've shot a few weddings with the non-E and the files are ridiculously good, you don't need anything sharper, especially since wedding photographer is mostly done at large apertures that can't even resolve the difference.

Moire is a fairly simple fix if you are using LR4.

I didn't know that. Could you share basically what the Lightroom fix entails?

Use the brush tool, and you'll see "Moire" in the third tier, under "Sharpness" and "Noise." I've never tried it because I don't get much moire with the D3s, but from what I've read, it's among the best available software solutions for moire.

There's no global "remove moire" feature, so it does have to be image by image with LR4.

Capture NX that is shipped with the D800e is amazing at fixing Moiré, even better than Lighroom 4. But the moiré on the E is a nonissue, seriously. It won't give a lot more moiré than any other camera, but the sharpness compared to other cameras ! But agree that D800 is sufficient for 99% of photographers.

Have you used the E for weddings or social events? Just want to make sure you're saying moire is a nonissue for use with clothing fabric, not just landscapes.

moire is not a problem... having A+ technique and a super fast computer and stack of hard drives is...
My advice is get a D3s

Not a serious issue, I shoot fashion and have had problems on two occasions so far both easily fixed. Vails are nowhere near fine enough to create a moire issue on 36mp, it occurs on very by fine weave fabrics. If you shoot a lot wider than f4 you are unlikely to see it.

Lots of comments in this thead by non-d800E users...

@playerofwar: ViewNX can´t remove moire. I think you mean Capture NX, which in my view is inferior to lightroom...

@D.Diggler:
I attached an image, this is part of my D800 workshops (http://nikonschool-de.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nikonschool_de.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=313) if you ever have the need of some professional help with your camera

http://www.euerfotograf.de/ausgang/d800e-moire.jpg

Left side is the original picture in Capture NX, middle picture is Capture NX with moire reduction set to high and right side is Lightroom 4 with the moire brush.

You can remove moire easily with the moire brush in LR4. My example is a crop from an ordinary guest photo. Are you willing to retouch each image where moire might (randomly) occur or are you willing to deliver an image like this? Then get the D800E...
