had a impromptu photo shoot with my room-mates puppy today. he got bored of us after a while. he's a lab border collie mix, a rescue from northern Manitoba and he now calls ontario his home..

I totally agree Douglas. the way he was composed here would have allowed me to make sure of that, lesson learned! I'll keep trying with him posed like this. when he's lazy it's easier to get shots like this. I'll post later, see what you think.

I really like this. I have to admit, I saw this a few days ago and passed over it, but looking at it again, I think it has a really nice quality to it and I just love those eyes.

Matt- that's a total sweetheart of a puppy.
And with those two breeds crossed, it's bound to be a wonderful dog unless it's spoiled.
About the pic- I love the look you got. Even the standing-up perspective works.
I agree about the eyes being soft focus.
Meaning only to be helpful:
With such a shot, concentrating on the eyes being in focus is the way to go. Almost anything else can be slightly oof- but the eyes are usually critical.
But all is not lost here. I did some additional sharpening. And I re-sized the image so scrolling isn't necessary (a peeve of mine re horizontals).
What do you think of the edit?

Hey guys thanks for the awesome compliments. Don't worry about critiquing the photo because it is more than welcome. I like additions you made to the photo charlie. I'll have to find out the actual size to set the photos at. And save people from having to scroll. I never thought to add a frame. Nice touch!

Matt- most people size their pics at 800 on the long axis. You still have to scroll for verticals, but that's a necessary evil

The sharpening was done selectively, i.e. lassoing the eyes and sharpening to taste. Nothing complicated.
