A breaking dawn shot of this famous location under absolutely crystal blue skies. One image I have wanted for years. The problem has always been "being there!" Which due to the remoteness of area doesn't happen very often for me, or most people I would suspect. New vehicle lets me travel, sleep, and freeze overnight in the tin box. Think it was 18 f. last night. Yes, it is very red when the sun first hits...
How cool! You certainly got some very nice soft light there. Too bad there were no clouds for you, but you still made this into a stellar image. It's all about working the light you have.

Beautiful light and nice composition as well. I was there last year and also ran into clear blue skies. This was in spring though and no so cold. The touch of snow makes this shot even better. Well done.
Hey Craig, beautiful shot...brings back great memories. We were there at the end of September 2008...drove up from the Fruita campground in pitch darkness using two GPS units and maps; we got there just in time for the sunrise and were "the only ones around on the planet".
Clear blue is the normal for Utah, and this place is a stellar example of the contrast between the reds and the blues the state is famous for.
Dave, good catch! I waited for that! That little kiss of light I really like. Also all across the peaks.
(not that I really waited)
Chris, my intention was to get up to the Cathedral Valley primitive campground because I'd always wanted to spend the night there. But, even in my Jeep I could not get up that tiny pass the other day (at least all alone, going sideways toward the edge...). A little too much snow. Made it 80% of the way, but could go no further. So, I just car camped close by instead.

I agree, the subject is the Temple's and the vivid color and they work just fine against a blue sky which compliments but does not compete.
