Went on a hike at a local park lake this morning to check out the new bridge/boardwalk they built. The boardwalk looks like it will be a great place for warblers this spring. Made a 7 mile loop around the lake but didn't have many photo ops as the little birds were resting and the ducks were always just a little bit farther away. This pair of Mallards was close enough to post the resulting image though.
I drove down one of my usual birding roads on the way home and spied this super cooperative Loggerhead Shrike. I took a few photos when I first saw him and then about 5 minutes later on the way back, stopped at the same spot and got this image! He kept looking up at the sky like he was looking out for hawks so I hope he doesn't end up as someone's lunch!

Whoa, that's a fantastic shot! Seems lucky considering every shrike i've ever tried to photograph has been super skittish.
Thanks! Very lucky. I have always had the same problem also and they weren't anywhere near this close.
