Hello all,
I'm currently using a Crumpler 7MDH and while it has been great but I'm finding that I'm having trouble pulling out my camera body quickly after having added some equipment.
Currently I've got a gripped 5D Mark III along with two other lenses (and a third mounted on the body). One of the lenses has a really wide barrel causing a tight fit, so I'm looking for a slightly larger option.

Ideally I still want to stick with a messenger bag. My kit is starting to get pretty heavy so anything I get should have good padding. The Crumpler 8MDH is a logical upgrade but as far as I know it's only taller (and not wider) than the 7MDH. A non-messenger bag is fine too, but I'm looking for something that can be brought to semi-formal events without looking goofy (i.e. a backpack).

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Your current bag is wider than the 8MDH.
Perhaps a ThinkTank Retrospective series bag?

Thanks, I'll look into that. I'm also considering the Kata sling bags and giving up on the idea of being inconspicuous while carrying my full kit

Probably a dumb question but have you tried changing up the dividers?

I have the same bag and fit a gripped d700 with 24-70 2.8 attached, gripped d7000 body only, 70-200 f2.8, tokina 11-16, 50mm, and sb910.

Not that its fun to carry with all that.

You've got to be kidding? The 7MDH is a very large bag. I have used a 5MDH since 2006, and it will hold the following/similar kit no problem:

D700/5D/6D, 18/2.8(or similar), 35/1.4(or similar), 85/1.4.
Have you looked at moving your dividers around?

Wider than that and you should be looking at something with wheels.
