This provides a good look at how the terraces change.
As the mineral deposits change, the water is diverted, and the previous section goes dead (tiny life forms give color to the deposits).
I'm really liking this batch of shots from Yellowstone that you've been showing, and this is another one. The textures and range of color are astounding. Not overdone, not underdone. Just right.

I agree. Yellowstone is to me one of the most exciting natural places anywhere- with high points ranging from the best active geothermal region in the world (not counting active lava flows), to the best and most varied terrestrial wildlife viewing in N. America (that you can easily drive to).
