I decided to get Canon's 500 f4 ll and have found five dealers out of stock.
Canon direct's site says they have them but I would like to at least get the 2% offered by some dealers.

I think I will go with Allens Camera today unless I hear some bad things about them.
As far as I can tell, Allen's might be one of the best camera stores south of the border.
Always good gear prices, although his shipping might be a bit more expensive because he just doesn't have such favourable high volume shipping accounts as Adorama and B&H do.
If there is a problem of any sort, the boss is immediately on it, as he doesn't employ a host of indifferent sales clerks and full time internet fora troubleshooters.
We have a place with open water year round and this time of year (Minnesota) and many and eagles gather there waiting for the water to open in the North. Can't wait to try out the 500 there.
A place I actually like to call! Allen's is a great place to deal with and like PetKal said he makes sure everything is GTG.
I can't stand calling the larger stores, I use online ordering only... Last time I called NY for a Mac Pro video card I was treated so rudely I gave up and placed the order online. Instead of enjoying the ordering process I felt like someone was taking a rubber mallet to the crotch.

I'm in the Twin Cities also and just curious what location you're talking about - though I've done very little eagling in the past few years... Black Dog? Kaposia Landing? Red Wing?

Ouch ouch ouch..........I could almost feel that.
A good simile that is, gotta remeber it.
Kenmore camera has them on eBay...9999.00. They're in Seattle, reputable store. They've been in business for years. I don't work for them but I do buy from them every now and then.
I took it out briefly to an eagles nest nearby and froze my butt off, so I didn't stay long.
I am impressed by the autofocus speed, I think it is faster than my 300 f/2.8L IS.
I got it from Allen's Camera and dealing with them was a pleasure.
While I mainly shoot from a tripod hand holding this lens will be fun.
I'll bundle up and head to Red Wing early tomorrow morning. There often are many eagles there this time of year.
