Hello, I was curious if the were any members with experience with the Sigma 300mm 2.8 with the 2x extender, specifically compared to the most recent Canon 300mm 2.8 vii with the 2x viii extender?
If so, I would appreciate any thoughts you have relating to the AF speed and IQ comparisons.
I have used the Sigma on a 5D2 for about a year. Though I cannot comment on direct comparisons between it and the Canon version, I was surprised how sharp the Sigma remains with a Sigma 2x EX DG extender. AF is still accurate though a bit slower.
I have used it mostly for distant landscapes and occasional wildlife. Overall I'm impressed with the sharpness retained especially given the price point (I paid £1300 for lens and extender second-hand).

I had a Sigma 300 f/2.8 apo ex hsm lens ( previous to current model). I used it with both the Canon 1.4 and 2x version ii tcs and Sigma apo dg tcs. Focussing was faster and with less hunting with the Sigma tc and I couldn't tell the difference in sharpness between a canon tc and a sigma. In the end I sold it as I felt that my Canon 300 f/4 with 1.4 tc was sharper overall.
