The is the end of the 3 part series of this pure white snowy owl found on a Long Island beach. After taking the first image I noticed the batteries in my flash had run out and I was in the process of changing them when the action started. With freezing fingers that were working slowly, I chose to drop the fresh batteries into the sand and took images 2 through 7. Then I loaded fresh batteries just in time to illuminate the open mouth seen in the last image. After taking a bust to capture the open mouth, I picked up the sandy batteries and dropped them into my pocket to be cleaned when I got home.
I let the highlights go rushing to take the photos and I’m glad I captured them.
Nice job capturing these. I don't use flash. The birds have hot spots in their vision afterwards, just like we would.
Sweet images. This guy's making me sleepy.
That is the nicest snowy I have seen on the forum; pure white. Now you just have to teach him to use a more natural perch!! I think the non-flash shots look better IMO. Don
