Shot close to 1300 images covering the top 16 wrestling teams in Colorado. Wore me out...this is actually why my blog is about a week behind...it wore me out. Shot with a mix of 70-200, 120-300, 24-70 on the 7D or 1DMkII

Thanks Paul and Monkey. I had two strobes covering 5 mats. 70-200 for the three closest, and the 24-70 for the mat right in front of me, and my 120-300 for the far mats. I had to shoot the far mats at 2.8 and the close mats at 4/4.5, so that might explain the flash feel to a couple.

Carl,
Nice captures considering you had to shoot 5 mats with two lights. I've been there before. We have shot various state wrestling championships on the youth side (U6, U8, U10) now for all most 5 years. We are shooting the Team Georgia Little Kids State Wrestling State Championships in Atlanta on March 9th. There are about 12 mats.
I was wondering if there is an appropriate location on the forum to post shooting opportunities ? We have our 4 senior photographers but this event is more than the 8 mat events we shoot.

Carl, wow that is what I call multitasking. I know matches last different durations but I would imagine at times, you were shooting 5 matches at the same time?

mdalby,
Yes. I am going to talk to Todd about maybe sponsoring this meet and then get a bunch of the Maxpreps shooters to cover it. Then we could cover by weight class and make it easier for people to find photos.

When you say we can cover by weight class, are you talking about the weight class of the shooter or the wrestler or trying to pair the two together? I think that would put me at the heavyweight mat.
p.1 #11 · 2013 HS Wrestling Arvada West Varsity Invitational
Funny Mark. No, I mean the weight class of the wrestlers. There were times there was a 120lb match going on on one mat and a 135 on another and then like a heavyweight on another mat. Very hard to keep track by myself, but if we had a shooter a mat, that would be killer, or a shooter or two per weight class....
capo99, there were times I was just a foot or two away from their heads for the low shots...thankfully I was BSing with the refs before the meet and they let me get pretty close.
